ITHET 2027 will be held on 26–28 May 2027 at Sakarya University, Sakarya, Türkiye. This page gives an overview of how to reach Sakarya and the university. Please check timetables and requirements close to your travel date, as services and rules can change.
About Sakarya
Sakarya is a province in north-western Türkiye, east of Istanbul. Its main city is Adapazarı, which lies on the Istanbul–Ankara transport corridor. Sakarya University is one of the largest universities in Türkiye by student enrolment. The conference will be held on its main campus, the Esentepe Campus in the Serdivan district, close to Adapazarı.
Most international delegates will arrive through one of Istanbul’s two airports and continue to Sakarya by road or rail.
Getting to Sakarya
By air
| Airport | Notes |
|---|---|
| Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) | On the Asian side of Istanbul, so it is generally the more convenient airport for Sakarya. Intercity coach services run from the Istanbul area to Adapazarı. |
| Istanbul Airport (IST) | Istanbul’s main international hub, on the European side. Allow extra time to cross the city to reach Sakarya. |
By road
- Intercity coach: regular coach services connect Istanbul (including its airports and main bus stations) with Adapazarı. Ticket offices and online booking are available from the coach operators, and tickets can normally also be bought at the coach station on arrival. The journey is typically a few hours, depending on traffic.
- Private transfer or taxi: a pre-booked airport transfer is the simplest door-to-door option, especially with luggage or late arrivals. Agree the fare before you travel.
- Car hire: Sakarya is about 150 km east of Istanbul on the main motorway corridor towards Ankara. Allow extra time for Istanbul traffic.
By rail
- High-speed train (YHT): the Istanbul–Ankara high-speed line stops at Arifiye, a suburb of Adapazarı. From Arifiye, the commuter service Adaray (restored in October 2024) runs into central Adapazarı.
- Ada Express: a regional service between Gebze and Adapazarı, with a scheduled journey of about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Rail services and timetables change, so please check the current timetable with the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) before you travel.
